Last year I challenged myself to read 750 books and I reached my goal in December and celebrated with my elementary students. During our conversations, we talked about the benefits of setting a goal whether it was to finish a book or to read a certain number of books over a certain amount of time. They then helped me set my goal for 2015. We decided on 900 books.
I know 900 books sounds like a lot of books, but I read lots of picture books over the course of the year. As a reviewer for the Reading Circle sponsored by the Missouri State Teachers Association I must read lots of picture books for our publication, New Books for Missouri Students, in order to select the best books published for our students. I am very lucky to have the publishers send me their newly published books for me to read and review. It’s like Christmas every week!
This year, I am keeping my elementary students involved in my challenge by keeping track at school in the library so that we can motivate each other in our reading challenges.
Happy Reading!
